Hydraulic & Pressure Tubing
Hydraulic tubing conveys fluids from between components, valves, actuators, and tools. Tubes can be ideally installed in equipment when there is no space limitation and the movement, noise and vibration of the machine is minimal. The tubing is first formed, welded and then cold drawn to the specified dimensions. Annealing in a hydrogen-nitrogen controlled atmosphere produces an exceptionally bright, clean surface finish, inside and out.
Hydraulic tubing offers several advantages over lines as it can work in higher operating temperatures and requires less maintenance. It is ideal for equipment without space limitations and where the movement, noise, and vibration of the machine is minimal. Carbon steel hydraulic tubing is especially useful for moving large volumes of fluid or when relative cost is a factor.
The size of the pipe, tubing, or line in a hydraulic system is very important. If the line is too small, the oil flows at a high rate of speed. This generates heat, which means that the fluid is losing power. If the line is too large, the time and cost of installation may be too high.

Seamless Hydraulic Tubing (SAE J-524) covers cold drawn and annealed seamless low carbon steel pressure tubing intended for use as hydraulic lines and in other applications requiring tubing with uniform ductility and a smooth clean inside surface.
Seamless hydraulic tubing is produced as a seamless tube by rolling and piercing bar stock. It then gets multiple cold-drawing reductions before a final cold draw guarantees tight dimensional tolerances and excellent surface finish. After final sizing of the tube through cold drawing it undergoes intermediate annealing and a dead-soft annealing process to meet SAE J524 requirements.

Benefits of Seamless Hydraulic Tubing
- Appearance Smooth, clean OD and ID, which also helps prevent damage to valves and cylinders
- Strength Designed to withstand fluid pressures due to being highly tested and cold worked
- Consistency Quality and chemistry are carefully restricted; maintains constant dimensions under pressure
- Workability Very good for bending, flaring, forming, and brazing
- Weight Typically lighter than hose
- Temperature Has a greater temperature operating range and a higher heat dissipation rate
- Conductive Steel hydraulic tubing is electrically conductive – good static dissipation properties
- Longevity Typically provides a longer service life than hose
Applications by Industry
Seamless hydraulic tubing is used in any application in which fluid transfer is needed and/or where bending and flaring are critical. Hydraulics are used in industries from automotive, aerospace, and locomotive to agriculture, construction, and shipbuilding. Heavy equipment including excavators, diggers, skidders, cranes, hoists, machine presses, log splitters, and farm equipment are just a few examples.
Parts where it is used include diesel fuel injectors, lubricators, generator pumps, coils, air conditioners, and similar high-pressure applications, as well as fittings, couplings, and fluid lines. Automobile brakes and transmissions, airplane flight controls and landing gear. Roller coasters, automatic dishwashers and washing machines
Hydraulic tools are often heavy equipment that transmits high pressure hydraulic fluid throughout the various hydraulic motors and cylinders. This fluid is controlled automatically or directly by control valves, which are themselves distributed through lines and tubes.
